Natural Remedies for Dark Circles

If you suffer from atopic or contact dermatitis or allergies or have had hay fever, you probably know what dark circles are.

Dark circles are caused by aging, genes, a lack of sleep, being tired and dehydrated, and can be very annoying. If you are under stress or you smoke or drink excessively, there’s a chance you have them.

To get rid of dark circles entirely is a difficult task, and some might say impossible without cosmetic procedures, but there are things like natural remedies you can try to reduce their appearance.

Using cucumber slices on your eyes can lighten your skin and reduce dark circles. Cut a cucumber, put the slices in the fridge for 30 minutes, then put them on your eyes for 15 minutes.

Using raw potatoes might seem strange, but they can bleach skin naturally. They can help remove dark circles and puffy eyes. Use them the same way as cucumber slices.

Rose water can freshen up your skin and make tired eyes look more awake. It does this because of its special properties. To use it, soak a cotton pad in rose water and leave it on your eyes for 10 to 15 minutes.

Tomato juice can help lighten dark circles. Apply a mixture of one teaspoon of tomato juice and half a teaspoon of lemon juice to the under-eye area and wait 10 minutes before rinsing it off.

Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, which can help lighten dark circles. Put some on a cotton ball and apply it to your dark circles. You should let it sit for ten minutes before washing it off.

Coconut oil makes skin smooth, helps prevent wrinkles, and can reduce dark circles. Massage it into the skin around your eyes, and over time, the dark circles will get lighter.

Tea bags can also help. They have antioxidants that can get rid of dark circles and puffy eyes. Chill the tea bags and put them on your eyes for 15 minutes.

A cold compress can tighten the blood vessels under your eyes and reduce puffiness and dark circles.

Turmeric is good for dark circles because it has antioxidants and reduces inflammation. Mix turmeric powder with pineapple juice to make a paste, put it on your dark circles, and wash it off after 10 minutes.

Here’s what you need to avoid if you find yourself bothered by dark circles:

Reduce salt intakeEating too much salt can cause puffiness and dark circles under your eyes.
Manage your allergiesSome allergies can lead to dark circles. It’s best to take allergy medication or avoid allergens if possible.
Remove make-up properlyOil-based makeup can worsen dark circles and irritate eyes if left on during sleep. Use lighter makeup and always remove it before bed.
Avoid the sunExcessive sun exposure can cause dark circles. Use sunscreen, wear a hat, and use sunglasses for protection.
Don’t smokeSmoking harms your health and can contribute to dark circles because it can dry your skin.

What to do if natural remedies are a fail:

If natural remedies don’t work, you can try eye creams. They have ingredients that can reduce dark circles and puffiness.

Stress can cause dark circles, so reducing stress can help, and you can do that with  yoga and meditation.

Eating healthy can help prevent dark circles. Your body needs vitamins C, E, and K and also iron and folic acid. These are in foods like berries, greens, nuts, whole grains, and cheese. Avoid sugary drinks and snacks.

Not getting enough sleep can cause dark circles because it makes your skin look paler. This makes blood vessels more visible. Sleep for 7-8 hours every night.
